Picking Reference Photographs:

Reference Photograph Criteria:

To ensure that you receive an accurate portrait of your pet, please read through these instructions regarding picking the proper photographs of your pet to send.

  • Send at least three separate color photographs of your pet. The photographs must be well light, ideally taken outside during the day.

  • The images need to be in focus and clear.

  • The photos should ideally be taken outside in natural light, and no flash should be used.

  • These photographs should be taken using the maximum quality settings on your camera and upload them using the highest resolution possible. JPEG files emailed to me work out best.

  • Your reference photographs are what the portrait will be based on, so they should represent how you would like your pet to look in their portrait. Please make sure the expression your pet has on their face in the photographs, the angel of their eyes, as well as the position they are in, is how you would like the portrait to look. I'm not able to redraw your pet in a different position, change the angle of their eyes, or change the expression on their face unless I have a photograph depicting that.

If you have traditional paper photographs, please scan them using photograph quality scanner, and send the scans to me as JPEGs.

Please bear in mind that I will be basing the coloration of your pet's fur off of the reference photo(s) you give to me. If the colors in a reference photo(s) you send me are not accurate to your pet's true fur color, please inform me of this, and provide me with a reference photo that does accurately depict your pet's fur coloration BEFORE I start the painting process.

Good Reference Photos:

These photos have good lighting, show true fur color, and show bright clear eyes.

Bad Reference Photos:

These photos are too dark, blurry, not accurate to fur color, and too far away.
